Breakfast Boosts Brainpower
When we were kids, we were always told that if you eat a good healthy breakfast before taking a test, you are more likely to succeed. Well, it’s true in our everyday lives as adults too! Breakfast enhances learning, performance, and health for both children and adults and is a simple way to feel better and more productive throughout the day.
Research shows that adults who eat a healthy breakfast are better able to recall information, perform better, and less likely to overeat throughout the day. If you skip breakfast, you are more likely to snack on unhealthy, quick grab foods because your body is trying to make up for missed calories. So, do yourself a huge favor and eat something before heading out of the door for the office. You may ask, “What do I eat? I don’t have time in the mornings” If you are like so many Americans, you are probably sleep deprived (which is a whole nother topic!) and you tend to hit that snooze button time and time again only to be rushing around all morning. No time for breakfast….try some of these healthy options to ensure a satisfied, healthy, productive day!
Pair One and Two and Three together so that you will feel fuller and satisfied until lunch and have the much needed energy to last until the end of work when you are headed home to do your workout! Try and keep your breakfast under 350 calories.
- High quality/low fat proteins- A source of lean protein like yogurt (Greek is awesome because it is so creamy), milk, eggs (which can be microwaved), chicken sausage, turkey pepperoni, or those high protein cereals like Kashi go lean.
- Fruits and Veggies- Try an apple with 1 Tbsp low fat all natural peanut or almond butter, or a banana, orange, grapefruit, tomatoes, homemade salsa, mushrooms, spinach, asparagus. The veggies are much better mixed into your eggs or made as an omelet.
- High energy carbs- Try 100% whole wheat english muffins, low cal 100% WW bread or WW wrap (can make a breakfast burrito), or whole grain cereals like cheerios. Oatmeal is always a great bet as well. Be careful with the grains that you aren’t eating too many calories in carbs. And just stay away from the store bought muffins…..they are ridiculously high in calories.
