Under Control
At one time or another in our lives, I am sure most of us can say that we were able to eat whatever we wanted to without it going straight to our hips. Unfortunately, the older we get, this seems to change. I have always been an active person and able to eat pretty much what I wanted throughout high school. As I became more nutritious conscience, I started changing my eating habits to healthier choices ALL of the time.
It seems as though the older I get, the harder I have to work at burning off any excess calories I consume. Does this sound like you? If so, let’s talk about changing our eating habits so…….
How do you prevent overeating?
EAT! Do not starve your body of what it is craving most……fuel. DO NOT skip breakfast. By eating breakfast, it will boost your energy to start your day out right, curb day time unhealthy snacking, and will surprisingly help you lose weight.
EAT OFTEN! Make sure you eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner along with two snacks throughout the day. Your meals should consist of 400-500 calories a piece and your snacks should consist of 100-200 calories a piece. You can take into consideration your workouts, but keep in mind if you are trying to lose weight, don’t add any calories to your diet.
PLAN! Sit down on Sunday and plan out your meals for the week. I like to plan my meals from Sunday dinner to Friday night dinner and all of the meals in between. I usually save Saturday to eat out for dinner.
COOK for 2,4,6 or even 8! The more servings you cook, the more leftovers you will have. You can eat the leftovers throughout the week OR freeze them and use them on a night when you have no time to cook.
How to eat healthier when eating out?
-Ask your waiter to box up half of your meal so that you can take it home.
– Order a salad and an appetizer as your meal
– Don’t go out to eat BLIND! Look up the nutrition facts to your favorite restaurant before going. Most restaurants have nutrition facts on their websites these days.
-Skip dessert and if you absolutely need something sweet after a meal out, stop by Wendy’s for a frosty, McD’s for a small fruit and granola parfait, or Chick fil a for a small ice cream cone.
