Belong to the Clean Plate Club
If you follow these new dietary guidelines….
- Make half of your plate fruits and vegetables.
- Eat more whole grains to get more proper nutrients.
- Eat more lean meats and poultry.
- Eat more legumes and nuts and seeds.
- Use fat free and low fat milk.
- Stay away from added sugars, refined grains.
- Read the nutrition label for salt content. Consume less than 2500 mg per day. If you are over 51, African American, or have high blood pressure or diabetes, consume less than 1500 mg per day.
- Consume less than 300 mg of cholesterol per day.
- Stay away from trans fats.
- Get nutrients from “real” foods instead of vitamins and supplements.
- Consume alcohol in moderation. (1 drink per day for women and 2 drinks for men)
- Drink water and stay away from sugary drinks.
