Move it and escape stress
You know that exercise is good for you but you are too busy and stressed to fit it into your crazy schedule. Don’t let stress take control of you……you need to step back and take control of the stress! Everyone deals with it at some time or another and it is just a matter of knowing how to kick stress in the face to make you feel better and more productive. I am going to give you a few tips on how to deal with those stressful days that pop into our lives, whether it is dealing with your job, children, significant other, or something totally unexpected.
Most forms of exercise from cardiovascular training to weightlifting can help you relieve stress. Even if you are not in shape, a simple power walk can help with your stress. A lot of times people end up sorting out their problems and lives during their exercise. Not only does exercise increase your overall physical health, it can increase your mental health as well.
Endorphins- You’ve probably heard the word before but may not know exactly what it means. Exercise helps increase the production of your brains neurotransmitters that make your body feel good, these are called endorphins. It is often referred to as a runners high, an intense game of soccer, or exercising out of your comfort zone, your regular exercise produces these endorphins on a regular basis, giving you that exercise high.
Meditate and not even know it- After swimming laps in the pool, running a 5k, or playing tennis, you will often find that you have completely forgotten the day’s stresses and annoyances and focused more on your body. As you begin to exercise on a regular basis, you will most likely start to lose some of those daily tensions and be able to better prioritize daily habits.
Mood- Ahhhh……who likes to be in a bad mood? Who likes to be around someone in a bad mood? I know I don’t! Well….regular exercise can increase self confidence and lower anxiety and depression symptoms making you more fun to be around.
Sleep- Exercise improves your sleeping habits which is often disrupted by stress. If you often have a million things running through your brain at night and you can’t sleep, try adding one hour of exercise into your daily routine.
Time- Seriously?!?!?! You are going to tell me that you really do not have the time to exercise? Give me a break! Do you have the time to lay in a hospital bed? Well, if you don’t start exercising now, that is where you are going to end up eventually. Everyone has 30 minutes a day that they can take for themselves. Exercise is good for you, it is something you should make a habit daily. It gets the blood pumping. Get out and move and NO EXCUSES…….I don’t want to hear it!
Love- Do what you love! If you don’t like to run, then don’t do it. You will just continue to hate it and will find reasons/excuses of why you can’t go out and run. If you do love to ride a bike, pick up mountain biking. If you like the water, but hate to swim laps, pick up a surf board. Find what exercise is right for you and what calms you down. It is okay to change up your routine. Don’t always feel the need to take it to the gym. Do things at home, in your neighborhood, at the beach, with a friend, with your dog, etc.
Schedule it– This goes back to not having the time to exercise. If you write your exercise hour into your schedule, you are more likely to not schedule something else during that time and you will do your exercise for the day.
I hope that this was helpful to you and will help out with those stressful days. Remember that exercise will help you unwind and can become and important part of your approach to kicking stress in the face.
