Stay Fit on the job
Are you one of the many millions of Americans who works behind a desk without much movement 5 days a week, 8 hours a day? If so, take some time at work for yourself to ensure you stay fit and healthy. Slouching over your computer all day is not good for your back or those abs that you work so hard for at the gym.
If you have not already tried BarBelles At Home’s “working on my fitness” or “just another day at the office” exercise videos, try these simple moves to help stay healthy and sane while bringing in the dough.
Stretch– ease aches by getting up and stretching your muscles. Not only will stretching help relax you, it will help relieve any built up stress. Move every hour and start with neck and head stretches first, then move your way down the body. Set a timer on your phone or computer to help you remember when it is time to stretch. Remember, if people get a smoke break……you should get a stretch break!
Massage– This kind of goes along with stretching. If you typically have a sore neck and your hands are at the computer all day, give yourself a head and neck massage. If you work from home or work with a friend, ask your hubby or friend to give you a quick 1 minute shoulder massage. It is beneficial and feels quite nice.
Brown Bag It– Pack healthy. A lunch that provides the right nutrients can help you be more productive after lunch. So, instead of fantasizing about that afternoon nap, your lunch should help you get through the afternoon with some energy and get that dreaded project finished.
Drink Up– No….. not mimosas or bloody mary’s (although I know somedays we all probably wish we could have one or two or ten of those when the day gets hectic) but WATER! Water is your best friend and will truly help keep your body in check. Staying hydrated helps keep those afternoon headaches at bay and wards off snacking. If you absolutely HATE drinking water, try adding fresh lemon, lime, or orange to your ice water.
Eat all day– Take healthy snacks to munch on when you are hungry. Instead of reaching into the candy bowl or the box of doughnuts your co-worker brought in for that 10am meeting, pack things like those light baby bell cheese wedges with a serving of triscuits or cottage cheese and fresh fruit. Make your own granola and mix it into some Greek yogurt. Choose foods that are high in fiber and protein to help keep you full and satisfied.
Burn calories at lunch– Start a Get Fit Club at work and grab your desk neighbor and instead of taking the whole lunch for stuffing your face as fast as you can to get back to that annoying project, take 15 minutes for eating and 45 minutes for a walk. This will help burn calories and boost your energy for the rest of the day.
